    Mini Review: Mortal Kombat II

Finally a Mortal Kombat film that feels like Mortal Kombat! Mortal Kombat II is at its best when it leans into the zany comedy & action (thank you Karl Urban), but falters when it rushes to add any sort of emotional stakes. But the fact that the movie isn’t half bad is a victory.

Mini Review: The Devil Wears Prada 2

While the quips don’t bite nearly as hard as the original, & the laughs aren’t quite as loud, The Devil Wears Prada 2 manages to justify itself as a sequel 20 years in the making, giving us satisfying ends to its characters while still carrying its own modern point of view.

    Mini Review: Mile End Kicks

Chandler Levack so beautifully captures that feeling of leaving home for the first time in #MileEndKicks, a film filled with so many great Montreal-isms. While I can’t totally relate to our protagonist, Barbie Ferreira delivers a sincere & honest performance. Well worth a watch.

    Mini Review: The Drama

A spiritual successor to Dream Scenario, with a slightly more satisfying end, Kristoffer Borgli’s #TheDrama is another descent into madness helped by a fantastic edit and some truly top-notch performances from Pattinson & Zendaya. That said, the chaos will not be for everyone.

Mini Review: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

There’s a certain talent & ingenuity behind jamming in so many references & nods to the video game, that I genuinely applaud the writers & directors of the #SuperMarioGalaxy movie. It’s a film that knows what it is, and leans into what it does well. It doesn’t mean its great.

    Mini Review: Project Hail Mary

#ProjectHailMary is a triumph of a blockbuster in many regards. As a book adaptation its top-notch, pulling off a massive narrative that shouldn’t work on screen. As a film the visual design & sound are absolutely stunning. If there’s a 2026 film to see in theatres it’s this one.

    Mini Review: Hoppers

Pixar’s #Hoppers, despite its admittedly kooky premise, is refreshingly simple in its story & I’m all for it. The animals are cute & cuddly, & the messaging rightfully wholesome. And while it may not be as emotionally deep, it still feels like a return to form for the company.

    Mini Review: The Bride!

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s #TheBride is creatively exciting & bold, anchored by a truly captivating & committed performance by the stellar Jessie Buckley. While its themes and story get really muddled in the chaos, comparing it to Joker 2, this one is actually a fun ride. Worth a watch.

Mini Review: In The Blink of an Eye

From @hulu, In the Blink of an Eye is conceptually really cool, and the film is well constructed and realized. But I can’t help think that if we were able to spend a bit more time with each timeline, the film might have landed a bigger emotional impact. Seen at #Sundance.

Mini Review: Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie

I have to admit I was thoroughly impressed with Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, a film that is so epically & unapologetically Torontonian. Its hilarious, silly, and at times truly bonkers. But somehow still tugs at those heart strings. Bravo Matt Johnson & Jay McCarrol!
