Mini Review: The Remarkable Life of Ibelin
The Remarkable Life of Ibelin is a truly remarkable piece of docu-filmmaking, & a testament to the power of the medium to showcase powerful human stories (even those that take place in the Warcraft universe). Words cannot describe how impactful this movie is. Stream @netflix.

Mini Review: Here
Robert Zemeckis’ #HereMovie is certainly interesting in concept, giving us a view of a home from a fixed camera over decades, and helped by a lively pace & edit. But its structure doesn’t really deliver on any added emotion, making you wonder if the experiment was truly worth it.

Mini Review: Conclave
#Conclave is a surprisingly captivating political tale set around the selection of a new pope. Performances are more muted than anticipated, but solid nonetheless. With an insightful script, scintillating score & consistently thrilling pace, it’s a thoroughly entertaining watch.

Mini Review: Emilia Perez
#EmiliaPerez is a lot – pop musical, cartel thriller & trans story all in one. And while on paper it shouldn’t work…it really kinda does! Led by its strong cast of talented women & a powerful vision from director Jacques Audiard, it’s a great watch. In theatres this weekend.

Mini Review: Venom The Last Dance
#VenomTheLastDance delivers on brainless fun and action, but sadly not on much else. But don’t expect much in the way of character development, plot, or continuity. It at least tries to end the franchise on a sentimental note, even if it doesn’t land. Good effort I guess!

Mini Review: Anora
Palme D’Or winner Anora is a winner indeed, bringing a euphoric energy to screen that feels youthful & kinetic, & then building a perfect mix of tension, a surprising amount of humour & catharsis in its back half. Mikey Madison is a perfect as our lead. In theatres this weekend.

Mini Review: Transformers One
It’s nice to see the Transformers franchise go for a new approach, and focus on the Transformers themselves for once. #TransformersOne is indeed a good animated movie with wide appeal, and a step up for the franchise. But it’s missing something to make it truly exceptional.

Mini Review: We Live in Time
The latest from @A24, #WeLiveInTime is a what you see is what you get kinda movie – a script that oozes authenticity, stellar performances from Pugh & Garfield, & a non-linear narrative that ultimately enhances its touching story. Fantastic as expected. In theatres this weekend.

Mini Review: Woman of the Hour
Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut #WomanOfTheHour, which hits theatres Oct 11 & @netflix Oct 18, is a refreshingly nuanced take on the serial killer true crime genre that’s captivating but never gratuitous in its depiction of violence. A must watch! One of my faves from #TIFF23.

Mini Review: Saturday Night
While it won’t be for everyone, as an SNL fan, the #SaturdayNightMovie really worked. The kineticism, pitch perfect casting, lightning fast script & phenomenal ramp up to the end all had me hooked. Thoroughly enjoyable but don’t expect any deep insights. In theatres this weekend.
