    Mini Review: Jackpot

Who is this movie even for??? The #JackpotMovie, about a lottery where anyone with a losing ticket can legally kill the winner for the prize, is likely too violent & zany for most casual comedy viewers, and way too tame & light for any horror / action fans. It’s a real miss.

Mini Review: It Ends With Us

I can’t speak about its quality as an adaptation, but the #ItEndsWithUsMovie is certainly an entertaining romance flick, with a vulnerable, charismatic lead performance from Blake Lively and a message on domestic violence that, while a bit heavy handed at times, ultimately works.

    Mini Review: Kneecap

Who would’ve thought that the story of a “low life scum” native Irish rap group could be so oddly endearing? #KneecapMovie is an incredibly delightful watch, filled with fresh & frenetic film work, top-notch needle drops, and some real heart at its core. I’m a fan. A great film!

    Mini Review: Dìdi

The universally relatable @didithemovie is a love letter to growing up ABC in the 2000s. Theres an earnestness & joy in Sean Wang’s filmmaking that elevate this coming-of-age tale. While a more clear story arc wouldve been welcomed, it doesn’t detract from this special experience

    Mini Review: Trap

A solid premise & delectably twisted performance from Josh Hartnett can’t quite redeem the stilted dialogue & messy plotting in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest #TrapMovie. That said, it’s certainly fun, particularly as it unravels in its 3rd act. Just don’t expect a clever twist!

    Mini Review: Sing Sing

There are some truly special, vulnerable & expectation- subverting scenes in #SingSing, a film that finds warmth even in a cold prison setting. While Domingo shines, it’s the ensemble of formerly incarcerated actors that bring an unexpected genuineness to the film. A must watch!

    Mini Review: Deadpool & Wolverine

You have to be pretty cynical to not enjoy the latest #DeadpoolWolverine movie, in all its obnoxious, meta, action-filled glory. Because even with its faults, it’s still a weirdly genius homage to decades of Fox filmmaking that left me, a long-time fan, entertained & satisfied.

    Mini Review: Twisters

The @Twistersmovie could’ve been a letdown in many ways, so the fact that it’s actually sincerely well crafted & entertaining is a huge win for the creative team. Filled with solid action, compelling characters & a very human narrative, it’s a solid summer blockbuster all around.

    Mini Review: Touch

There are many vivid & beautiful moments throughout Baltasar Kormákur’s #TouchMovie, which is a delicate look at a “what if” romance spanning decades & continents. It’s not perfect, with the emotion being a bit too even keel, but there is a gentle sincerity that is truly special.

    Mini Review: Ezra

Tony Goldwyn’s #Ezra film is certainly a crowd pleaser, with admirable performances and, in particular, a welcomed, layered portrayal of a character with autism. But where it loses me is in its script, & its problematic & oft unethical portrayal of parenting. It’s a miss for me.
