    Mini Review: Gran Turismo

We continue the 2023 catch-up with a surprise – the #GranTurismoMovie is actually not bad! While it doesn’t stray far from the classic underdog story structure, it still manages to hit all the right beats. And the racing action is perfectly slick & stylized. I kinda enjoyed it!

    Mini Review: Mean Girls (2024)

The @MeanGirls musical movie is one of the best true-to-stage musical adaptations in a long while, sticking with a down to earth approach that focuses on its talented cast. Like the 2017 musical, it’s only slightly updated from the 2004 film, so will satisfy any fan out there.

Mini Review: Society of the Snow

#SocietyOfTheSnow is an emotional & surprisingly earnest story of survival. While some moments may be hard to watch, those who stick it out are rewarded with incredible acting, stunning photography, some of the best sound design, & genuinely human moments. Watch @netflix now.

  • Mini Review: Foe

    Mini Review: Foe

Trying to figure out why Garth Davis’ sci-fi thriller #Foe just didn’t work for me. Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal & Aaron Pierre are beyond talented actors. But they just can’t overcome the coldness of the film, which makes the final twist feel ultimately empty. On @PrimeVideo now.

    Mini Review: Nimona

The end of year catch-up continues with #Nimona a top-notch animated feature from @netflix. Its story and themes may feel a bit familiar, but where it truly shines is in its nuanced characters, stellar voice cast & energetic and beautiful visual design. A solid watch all around.

Mini Review: All of Us Strangers

#AllOfUsStrangers is a testament to the beauty of film & its ability to explore the most painful moments in life. Andrew Scott leads a stellar ensemble, with all four actors delivering deeply moving performances. Will need many more moments to process this one. In theatres now.

Mini Review: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Is it great? No. But as a final chapter, #Aquaman2 isn’t nearly the worst in the DCEU. Every script change is readily apparent, but every attempt is made to make a somewhat logical & emotionally satisfying conclusion. It’s at least fun, and that’s maybe enough at this point.

  • Mini Review: Ferrari

    Mini Review: Ferrari

Michael Mann’s latest #Ferrari is…odd. The cast is good, but all feel miscast & underutilized. As a biopic it’s competent, but with a script that avoids any depth. The racing action is sleek & intense, but weirdly feels out of place in the finale. Can’t say I enjoyed this one.

  • Mini Review: Rye Lane

    Mini Review: Rye Lane

The end of year movie catch-up continues with another hit. #RyeLane is the best romcom of the year, featuring a meet cute that feels honest & real due in part to the charisma of its leads. Direction, music & score are vibrant, colourful & energetic. A real breath of fresh air.

  • Mini Review: Cassandro

    Mini Review: Cassandro

Waited too long to watch this one as I start my end of year movie catch-up, but #Cassandro is fantastic, anchored by a top notch lead performance. Gael Garcia Bernal exudes joy & charisma, which makes the nuanced heartbreak that much more powerful. Stream on @PrimeVideo now!
