    Mini Review: The Roses

I feel like #TheRoses is more about the absurdity & spectacle than anything, pushing the bits into increasingly zanier territory. Luckily Colman and Cumberbatch are more than up for the task. There’s a world where you want it to get even crazier. But what results is rather tame.

    Mini Review: Eternity

#Eternity is everything you expect it to be – quirky, fun, and seeping with an immense amount of love & emotion. And while the cast is expectedly fantastic, it gets a bit bogged down in the repetitiveness. But the vibrancy & production design enhance the overall experience.

    Mini Review: The Marching Band

Emmanuel Courcol’s #TheMarchingBand finds its resonance in the dynamic of its leads & the focus on its music. But the small town drama & its quirky inhabitants can feel a bit one-note. That said, the emotional crescendo at the end is well-earned & moving, and well worth a watch.

Mini Review: Wake Up Dead Man

#WakeUpDeadMan is another solid entry into the Knives Out franchise, continuing the streak with another exceptional ensemble cast. The twists & turns are wild & entertaining, & the final conclusion as zany as you would want. A real delight, and well worth watching in theatres!

    Mini Review: Rental Family

HIKARIs #RentalFamily is fantastic, oozing with compassion & heart in its exploration of mental health & loneliness in the Japanese context. Brendan Fraser is perfect casting, bringing such a warmth to screen, which feels so utterly refreshing in this day and age. A lovely film.

    Mini Review: Left Handed Girl

Shih-Ching Tsou’s #LeftHandedGirl is certainly a special film, highlighting the emotional complexity of mother-daughter relationships in modern day Taiwan. The film feels lived in & raw, & the cast, including our young lead, are fantastic. A great watch. In theatres this weekend.

    Mini Review: Wicked: For Good

#WickedForGood is everything you would want & expect from this creative team who manage to stick the landing coming off of an incredible Act 1 (which has always been the stronger act anyways, in my opinion). There is much to love & truly I’m just glad so much of the film worked.

  • Mini Review: The Running Man

    Mini Review: The Running Man

Edgar Wright, Stephen King & Glen Powell should make for a pretty stellar combo in #TheRunningMan, which is ultimately a fun action flick. But the script plays a bit heavy handed, a bit overlong, & the action oddly safe. But it’s helped of course by Powell’s charisma as a lead.

    Mini Review: Sentimental Value

#SentimentalValue is filled with nuanced characters, a deeply meaningful script, & incredible performances across the board. The films story gets brought down at times by the weight of the melancholy, but what remains in the end is a beautiful bit of healing. A great watch.

Mini Review: Now You See Me Now You Don’t

The #NowYouSeeMe movies are ridiculous & campy in the best way possible, and Now You Three Me does not disappoint. The abundance of characters does leave little room for anyone to shine, except for Rosamund Pike who eats up the screen. But the whole gang is back and I love it!
